SANTIAGO.- The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OCDE) issued a report today that examines Chilean agriculture during the last 20 years using strict standards applied to the 30 most industrialized nations in the world.
The OCDE has stated that during the last 20 years, Chile´s economy has grown faster than any other country in Latin America.
Regarding the agricultural industry and activities derived from it, the organization revealed that it has played a key role in Chile´s economic success, contributing to the country’s stability and reforms while making an important contribution amidst rapid export growth. “The sector is strategically more important than its 4% claim to the GDP might suggest”.
The OCDE proposes that the Chilean agricultural and agro-industry sectors have proven to be very successful in adding value to primary production and processed products such as wine and fruit, making for a GDP proportion similar to that of agriculture itself.
