SANTIAGO. -  Chief of Police Alejandro Bernales responded to a clandestine interview given by the ex-Lautaro Movement member Juan Aliste Vega, saying, that he should turn himself in since “he who has done nothing has nothing to fear”.   Aliste is currently in hiding, being pursued by law enforcement for his alleged involvement in the murder of Officer Cristián Vera.

Bernales also questioned statements made by Aliste regarding the existence of a conspiracy to place the blame on the ex-“lautaristas”.  “A conspiracy, and they just happen to be arrested in Argentina carrying a pistol and a revolver (...) There are two suspects in custody with previous criminal records, with evidence, pistols, a revolver, what more do they want”, he said.

The Chief of Police added that they would continue to search for Aliste and stressed, “we are not chasing him, we are looking for him because we have orders to arrest him from the Public Ministry as well as the Military Prosecutor’s Office”.

When questioned about the fact that the interview with Aliste appeared in a pro-government newspaper, Bernales ventured only to say, “they are free and have every right to do all the interviews they want. That is not my problem”.
