SANTIAGO.- Christian Democratic (DC) Senator Jorge Pizarro deemed the position of ex President Ricardo Lagos to be completely valid after Lagos announced that he is not willing to participate in the primary elections within the Concertación.
According to Pizarro, the group has employed all kinds of mechanisms to define who will be their presidential candidates, saying that in his opinion “it is not good to be forced into marriage with only one method”.
Nevertheless, Pizarro said that he is in favor of determining only one candidate, but that if that does not happen, he thinks the best option is to do it “once and for all during the first round”.
The senator also said that it is “urgently necessary” for the government coalition’s new leader to be linked to the Christian Democratic party.
The senator stated that he supports Lagos´ statements expressing that, as a former President, he is not willing to represent “any one group” to compete within the coalition. “We have to take care of our ex Presidents and they in turn should be careful with their leadership and the roles they play”, Pizarro concluded.
