SANTIAGO.- Following the controversy generated yesterday over the slow application of the reduction in fuel prices, the government spoke out asking distributors to move forward with the price cut so that the $700 million US dollars sacrificed by the Federal Treasury in this tax reach its intended beneficiary, the pockets of the citizenry and not the executives of the distribution chain.

He also called on consumers to become informed and look for the gas stations with the cheapest prices, in order to help the price to go down even more “because in the end those $700 million US dollars are for the relief of Chileans, not for the large chains of distributors or the small distributors either”.

When questioned as to the possibility of the government applying sanctions to those distributors who fail to apply the 52 peso discount decreed by law, Vidal replied that it is irrelevant.
