SANTIAGO.- Close to 600 Transantiago drivers took over facilities belonging to the Alsacia and Express service-provider companies, which operate in nine municipalities within Santiago, accusing the enterprises of several instances of non-fulfillment concerning work schedules.
According to Manuel Zarricueta, the director of Alsacia drivers, the situation has been ongoing for four months during which, “we have filed a request at the Labor Department, asking for a resolution so that they can be regulated and we can sit down to discuss the matter”.
Zarricueta hopes the company will address the issue along with the head of Labor, Patricia Silva, “to resolve the work scheduling problems once and for all, for all Transantiago workers”.
Transantiago users can expect routes in at least nine municipalities within Santiago to be affected, since close to half of all morning drivers belonging to the companies are participating in the protest.
