SANTIAGO.- Independent Democratic Union (UDI) Senator Evelyn Matthei has questioned the fact that the former minister of Education, Yasna Provoste, who was removed from office yesterday by the Senate, did not replace SEREMI officials when she “knew” that they were “incompetent”.
“Knowing that they were completely incompetent, knowing that she had officials in the Educational SEREMI who could not do their jobs, and that it is the regional secretariat in charge of the greatest amount of funds in Chile, $262 billion pesos, she left them all in their positions, so that they could continue on with the same carelessness, neglect and disregard”, stated Matthei.
The senator indicated that, in her opinion, the situation is aggravated by the fact that “the minister was personally warned by minister ZIlic”, who, according to Matthei, told her that it was “a particularly sensitive situation and suggested that she take charge of the situation in July of 2006 when Provoste started in her position and did nothing, she did not even replace one official”.
According to the senator, this is one of the few cases in which the chain was not broken at the weakest link.
