Thieves captured while robbing a bank in downtown Santiago

The arrests were made at 1:15 AM this morning after an alarm was tripped at a bank branch on Vicuña Mackenna Avenue.

SANTIAGO.- Police officers from the 4th Police Station of Santiago Centro arrested six people, including two women, as they were attempting to steal items from a bank branch located on Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna Avenue.


The arrests were made at 1:15 AM this morning, after an alarm at the bank was activated when one of the front windows was smashed.


Police apprehended Rita Maldonado, 27, and her sister, Giovanna, 37, Juan Navarro Díaz, 29, and Ramón Painel Huenchal, all found waiting outside of the bank for two other assailants who were inside the building.


The two suspects inside were identified as Juan Jara, 27, and Roberto Toro, 31. They were captured in the act of stealing a computer, telephones and computer keyboards.  Lock picks and other tools were also seized from the suspects.
