SANTIAGO.- The fifth poll taken at open markets and large-scale grocery stores by the Ministry of Agriculture has yielded information indicating drops in the prices of leafy green lettuce, carrots and lemons, as well as increases in the prices of zucchini, green beans and red apples.
The prices were measured by the Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (Odepa) for establishments within the Metropolitan Region.
The poll, which was taken on the 24th of this month, showed that the most significant price cuts in supermarkets were noted among leafy green lettuce (17%), pears (11%) and grapes (10%).
At open markets however, the figures indicated the most significant price drops were among leafy green lettuce (31%), carrots (15%) and lemons (12%). These crops seem to be showing a downward tendency, which is normal and to be expected during this season.
The greatest price increases at supermarkets compared to the previous week were among zucchini (24%), green apples (20%) and red apples.
Meanwhile at open markets, green beans (22%), iceberg lettuce (21%) and zucchini (15%) reported highest price jumps.
