SANTIAGO. - Nicolas Massú (117th) has done his part and advanced to the semifinals of the Challenger tournament in Tunisia.
The Viña del Mar native managed to defeat Frenchman Julien Benneteau (63rd) in two uneventful sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-2.
On paper, Benneteau made for a difficult rival since he was seen as the number one player at the tournament, proving that Chile’s number-two tennis player still has some fight left in him to move up in the ranking.
At the semifinals, Massú will go up against Brazilian player Thomaz Bellucci (126th), who defeated Paul Capdeville (136th) in two sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-4, preventing the possibility of a standoff between two Chilean players.
The match, which is scheduled to be this Saturday morning, will be the first time Massú will face Bellucci in the circuit.
