SANTIAGO.- The preventative environmental alert issued by the Metropolitan Region city government for today, Monday, could be prolonged due to poor ventilation conditions which could persist until at least Wednesday according to the Chilean Association of Meteorology.
The on-duty chief of the organization, Pilar Carrillo, told Radio ADN that “ventilation is not good for today, we are experiencing a high barometric pressure and basically, we will remain under these conditions for today, tomorrow and Wednesday”.
The specialist explained that “we have a stable atmosphere and that prohibits vertical movement, which also causes bad ventilation”.
The city government has issued an environmental alert for today, indicating that non-catalytic vehicles with license plate numbers ending in 1, 2, 3 and 4 are not allowed to circulate between 7:30 AM and 9:00 PM.
Metropolitan authorities also reminded residents that “it is prohibited to burn wood throughout the Metropolitan Region”, even if they have a lower combustion system or particle capture mechanisms, known as “double chambers”.
