SANTIAGO.- Senator Jaime Naranjo has deemed President Hugo Chávez´ allegations against the General Director of the Police Investigative Unit, Arturo Herrera, “a new display of lights to distract attention away from the INTERPOL report linking him to the FARC”.
According to Naranjo, who is a member of the Senate’s Human Rights Commission, President Chávez “always attempts to justify defeats made against him by discrediting others, in this case, the President of INTERPOL and the Chief of the Chilean Police Investigative Unit.
“You can’t help but wonder why, if President Chavéz had information possibly linking the Director of Investigations, Arturo Herrera, to a Human Rights cover-up in Chile, he didn’t make it public before or notify government authorities by means of the normal communication channels”, added the senator.
While manifesting his complete “solidarity and support” for Arturo Herrera, Senator Naranjo also said that he hopes authorities will “communicate their discontent with this type of slander” to the Venezuelan government.
