SANTIAGO.- Due to weather changes, LAN and Sky Airlines decided to resume flights to and from airports in the southern part of the country today. The flights had been cancelled yesterday due to the large amount of ash present in the air as a result of the Chaitén volcano eruption.
Meanwhile, according to the AirComet customer service call center, the airline’s flights remain cancelled at the Puerto Montt and Temuco airports.
Nevertheless, AirComet service to and from the air terminals in Balmaceda and Punta Arenas continue to operate normally.
Nighttime flights were prohibited in the area yesterday after the presence of volcanic ash from the Chaitén volcano was confirmed by the continuous monitoring activities being performed by the Meteorological Association of Chile.
According to announcements made by the Chilean Civil Aeronautics Department (DGAC) today, authorities will decide whether to maintain or discontinue the restriction on nighttime flights and said that the measure “will be communicated to airlines as soon as we know so that they can inform passengers using their respective communication mechanisms”.
