SANTIAGO.- The president of the Association of Chilean Exporters (Asoex) Ronald Brown, has called on authorities to evaluate the damage the truckers´ strike is causing and to act reasonably for a common good. Brown also requested that, since fuel prices will eventually go down, they act responsibly so as not to negatively affect other sectors.
The president of Asoex expressed concern on the part of exporters due to the situation and explained that as businesses “we are handling products that will, at some point, stop being shippable, we are worried, since we will not be able to fulfill some agreements and Chile’s reputation could be affected”.
Brown mentioned fresh fruit such as kiwis, apples and grapes, among the principal products that would be lost.
According to Brown, the strike will lead to “losses of some US $50 million, and if the situation continues into next week, losses could reach US $100 million”.
