GENEVA.- The president of the National Confederation of Municipal Workers (Asemuch), Oscar Yáñez, has stated, “the Chilean government, through the Regional Development Sub Secretariat, has broken international pacts that according to the Magna Carta are also considered to be human rights”.
Yáñez´ statements arose after meeting with the head of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Juan Somavia, in Switzerland during the 97th international conference of labor leaders being held at the United Nations Palace in Geneva.
After informing Somavia about the implementation of the collective negotiation mechanism and constitutional reform established by Article 121, which is currently being processed within the Interior Government Commission of the Senate, Yáñez stated, “the head of the ILO assured me that he is aware of the complaint and the conditions that are currently affecting thousands of municipal workers in Chile, offering his complete support to our organizational leaders”.
