SANTIAGO.- The Christian Democracy (DC) party board of directors will request a special session at the Chamber of Deputies today to analyze the recent wave of robberies in the country.  The leaders will request the presence of the minister of Interior, Edmundo Pérez Yoma; the National Public Prosecutor, Sabas Chahuán, the National Chief of Police, Eduardo Gordon and the Chief of the Federal Investigation Department, Arturo Herrera.

The report comes from DC Deputies Eduardo Saffirio and Gonzalo Duarte, who said that the session (requested for next Wednesday) will seek to evaluate public safety issues.

The East Metropolitan Region Public Prosecutor’s Office has indicated that, during the first 10 days of June, the number of reported robbery cases has increased by two per day – well above statistics gathered from previous time periods.

Deputy Jorge Burgos expressed concern due to the fact that the surge in these types of crime is occurring amid the processing of legal measures that had been praised as crucial steps in the fight against crime.
