SANTIAGO. - The Association of Teachers has said it will decide whether to call for an indefinite strike once the results of the General Education Law vote are released this afternoon at the Chamber of Deputies.

The indication was given by the president of the Teachers´ Association, Jaime Gajardo, after attending a prolonged meeting held at the organization headquarters last night.  The leader said that the group will wait for the results at Parliament to make a decision concerning the future of the demonstration.

“We are going to wait for the results of the vote and we are certain that if the law is approved, we will have to extend the strike indefinitely”, Garjardo said after  being asked to state his opinion by one of the attendees.

“You all know us well, we are not going to make problems, nor are we going to dance around the issues, we are going to confront them”, he added.

Nevertheless, Radio Cooperativa has reported that some leaders outside of Santiago have maintained that it is necessary to hold a referendum before making a decision on something as important as an indefinite strike.
