SANTIAGO.- The rare rainfall being reported over the last couple of hours along the cost of the First Region has prompted the Regional Emergency Office (Onemi) to declare a storm warning for the area.

Close to 1,200 families (400 of which are located in the municipality of Alto Hospico) have been affected by the rain, which began to fall on Wednesday night.

The homes, which possess flat roofs instead of pitched ones such as those used in the central and southern parts of the country, have suffered leaks following the two millimeters of rainfall.

The situation has prompted the Regional Emergency Office to declare a storm warning for the area and distribute a significant amount of nylon as one of the measures taken to aid those affected.

According to the director of the organization, Luigi Giocca, “this is a situation that is generally observed during the summer, when the summer rainy season or ´high plateau´ winter begins”.
