OSORNO.- At 8 o’clock this morning, officials belonging to the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the Bureau of Police Investigations (PDI) arrested the main suspect in the murder of high school track star, 16 year-old Carla Oyarzún Palma, who was killed on the afternoon of December 17th of this year in the IV Centenario de Osorno park.
Following an intensive investigation by officials belonging to the Osorno PDI, 45 year-old Cristián Rogel has been accused of murdering the girl.
The head of the city’s PDI department, Sub-prefect Jaime Avilés, has told Emol that Rogel was recognized by at least seven underage girls that were sexually abused in the same park.
Furthermore, the suspect’s own wife, who has not been identified, says she knew of the incidents and had revealed details to law enforcement authorities.
Carla Oyarzún, who was in her second year of high school at Colegio Santa Marta de Osorno, disappeared from the IV Centenario park, which is located in the Pilauco area of the city, while practicing track activities with her sister. Carla was attacked after she reportedly decided to stay behind and jog a few more kilometers by herself.
